National Living Treasure, Michael Leunig, died in late December aged 79.
Years ago my friend Matt and I saw Michael speak at a local high school.
In my heart I hear him tell this story:
That as a young cartoonist with The Age, newspapers overflowed with violence, doom and greed.
He wanted his cartoons to be a small window into a different world.
Of whimsy and gentleness, surprise and spirit.
And yes, Jesters provocation.
So he drew a man with a teapot on his head …
Homage
Leunigs body of work extends across more than half a century.
I highly value his inspiration, it infuses so many Leadership Formation discussions.
(my efforts, somewhat in the style of Leunig:)
No Sooner
Everyone who studies with me will eventually encounter his profound poem ‘No Sooner’.
A remarkable and consequential life.
Thanks Michael …
